GETTING STARTED
How do I create my first log?
Tap the + button on the main screen. Enter the activity name, select a category, and set the duration. That's it.
What are categories?
Categories help you organize your logs into meaningful groups—like "Work," "Exercise," or "Learning." You can create custom categories that fit your life.
How do I view my insights?
Navigate to the Insights tab to see breakdowns of your logged time by category, day, and week.
DATA & PRIVACY
Where is my data stored?
All your data is stored locally on your device. It never leaves your phone. There are no servers, no cloud, no accounts.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Go to Settings > Export to download your logs as a CSV file. You can use this to back up your data or analyze it elsewhere.
How do I transfer data to a new phone?
Export your data as a CSV from your old device. On your new device, you can import this file through Settings > Import. Standard device backup/restore (iCloud backup for iOS, Google backup for Android) should also preserve your data.
What happens if I delete the app?
If you delete Outlay, your data is deleted too—it's stored only within the app. Export your data first if you want to keep it.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The app is running slowly.
Try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, check that you have the latest version installed from the app store.
My data disappeared.
Since all data is local, this typically happens if the app was uninstalled or if device storage was cleared. Unfortunately, without a prior export, the data cannot be recovered.
Can I use Outlay offline?
Yes! Outlay works 100% offline. It doesn't need an internet connection for any functionality.
